BBC Sport women’s football news reporter at Old Trafford

Fridolina Rolfo was warming up on her own down the touchline towards the end of the first half. Manchester United need to change something so it looks like she could be Marc Skinner's card. Manchester City don't need to change a thing!

  2. HALF-TIMEpublished at 14:16 GMT

    Manchester United 0-2 Manchester City

The whistle blows on an exhilarating first half showing from league leaders Manchester City, who can count themselves a little unlucky not to be more than two goals ahead at the break.

Big team talk ahead for Manchester United boss Marc Skinner.

Man City had been rather stodgy away from home recently, but that has been blown away today. They have been transformed by their returning Japanese players, Fujino and Hasegawa. They simply don't give the ball away.

No coincidence that Kerstin Casparij is the top assister so far in the WSL this season.

The combination of her and Aoba Fujino on the far side have had the Manchester United defence on strings.

Whether it's Kerstin Casparij on the right or Alex Greenwood on the left, they are both in acres of space.

They like to really push up high and be brave early, which really overloads the area at full-back for Manchester United.

    Manchester United 0-2 Manchester City

Lauren Hemp latches onto a loose ball in the final third, jinking left and right to make space for a cross, which she rolls expertly through the six yard box.

The only thing missing for City was the finish, which Khadija Shaw was inches away from providing on the slide.

Hanna Lundkvist makes a rare foray forward from full-back on the Manchester United left but before she can get a cross into the middle she's dispossessed by a strong recovery tackle from Sam Coffey.

Manchester City stopper Ayaka Yamashita has done more sunbathing than anything else in this first half as we continue to await Manchester United's first shot on target.

Without Zigiotti Olme and Toone, our midfield looks so weak. We need to sign a top midfielder in the summer. In this match, we need to bring on Rolfo for Awujo or Naalsund and then put Park through the middle.

    Kit, Devon

It was always going to be a long afternoon after all the big matches this squad has played, playing Bayern mid-week, and the injuries. We're not good enough to get close to City after a rest. They need to try to keep it respectable.

Jess Park loses the ball just beyond the centre circle and Manchester City break.

It's down that right hand side again, through Khadija Shaw this time, and it eventually takes a combination of Hanna Lundkvist and Millie Turner to stop her.

This first half has flown by hasn't it? Well, maybe not for those of a Manchester United persuasion.

35 minutes or so in and their side have had just one touch in the Manchester City box. That simply has to change, and fast.

How on earth have they found something to rule that out? It's a joke...

    Rob, Manchester

The referee might have spotted a push, but did anyone else?

    Tom, Manchester

There wasn't much contact from what I could see, from Hasegawa or anyone else in sky blue.

An interesting trivia tidbit for you while Manchester City mount their latest attack:

Vivianne Miedema's two headed goals this afternoon took the Blues headed goals total in the Women's Super League this season to 15.

That's as many total goals as West Ham (15) have scored, and close to double Leicester City's overall total (9).

It's just the movement of Manchester City that impresses me. There are players popping up everywhere and Vivianne Miedema is running the channels.

If Manchester United want to even get a foothold back into this match, they need to start actually playing football. Millie Turner is out there asking for options because going long isn't working.

There's confusion in the media box as to why that goal was disallowed. Watching live, and on the replays we've seen, we couldn't see any issues. The City players were pretty perplexed.

The ladies in red already look so defeated and tired. It is going to be a long afternoon for Manchester United.

If we're being honest City could have already been four or five goals to the good but for a few good Tullis-Joyce saves and that disallowed goal.

Liverpool hang on to record their first away league win of the season.

The Reds were 3-0 up, Everton got a goal back before Reds captain Grace Fisk was sent off. Everton scored again but could not complete what would have been a tremendous fightback.

  18. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 13:57 GMT

    Manchester United 0-2 Manchester City

Manchester City have the ball in the net for a third time but it's not going to count.

Rebecca Knaak, who netted the opener in the reverse fixture in November, thumped the header goalwards but referee Kirsty Dowle spotted a push from Yui Hasegawa on a Manchester United player moments before it hit the net.

Almost a third for Manchester City as Bunny Shaw sits down both Manchester United centre-halves in the box before being denied by another sharp Phallon Tullis-Joyce stop.

The frustrations are starting to show for the home side as captain Maya le Tissier commits an unneccesary foul on the halfway line.
