  2. 'A really poor performance from everyone involved'published at 19:58 GMT 1 January

    FT: Sheffield United 3-1 Leicester

Oliver Skipp warms up before the matchImage source, Shutterstock

Leicester City's Oliver Skipp said he and his team-mates cannot take "anything positive" from the defeat by the Blades.

"Disappointing, that's an understatement. I think a really poor performance from everyone involved. No one can take any positives from that game I don't think, we didn't create much and conceded some sloppy goals so a real disappointment from everyone," he told BBC Radio Leicester.

"We've lacked consistency throughout and everyone's got to look at themselves and try and put that right.

"The only positive is we have got a game in four days to try and rectify that but we haven't been consistent at all this season and it's up to us in the dressing room to try and rectify that."

  3. 'Outstanding from the off'published at 19:54 GMT 1 January

A happy Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has been speaking following his side's victory.

"I thought we were outstanding from the off. Intensity levels, we competed, allowed good players to get their head up - they're going to hurt you and arguably they have the best players in the division, the strongest squad in the division, but they didn't really allow them to get anything on us," he told Sky Sports.

  4. Saints held by Millwall - reactionpublished at 19:51 GMT 1 January

Southampton manager Tonda Eckert speaking to BBC Radio Solent:

"If you draw a game, it depends what happens after.

"If we can bring home a good result against Middlesbrough, there will be positives to take here.

"We could have won the game at the end. I'm happy with the clean sheet, we work very hard on that. We didn't take our chances.

"It is four games in 10 days, I was happy with the boys who came in and played today. It is the second game in a row we've had a good impact from the bench."

Millwall manager Alex Neil speaking to BBC Radio London:

"It was a great performance. We changed our shape again for a number of reasons.

"We were the better side and we had the better chances. We've drawn with Ipswich, beat Bristol City and come here.

"For what we've got available, I thought it was terrific.

"We had opportunities, we didn't have the cutting edge to finish them off. Our game plan was to turn the ball over and create on the counter; the balance was excellent. I couldn't be more pleased with the lads."

  5. Norwich boost survival hopes with QPR win - reactionpublished at 19:48 GMT 1 January

    FT: QPR 1-2 Norwich

QPR boss Julien Stephan told BBC Radio London:

"It was a disappointing performance, especially in the second half. We had a lot of difficulty to keep the ball and create something collectively.

"When you concede a goal at the beginning of the second half, we struggled a lot and didn't find the solutions, even when we tried to change something with new players, and change the momentum.

"It's very important when you go through a moment like this to stay united and support the players even if we have to be honest and say it's not enough, the last three games.

"We have another in just three days so we don't have time to stay too down and we have to find the right way to give the confidence the players need to play the next one."

Norwich head coach Philippe Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"It's a difficult place to come because the pitch makes it hard to play the football we normally want to play, so that's a very positive point that the team showed they can adapt to the circumstances against a team with a strong home reputation.

"You see a team where everybody is fighting, where everybody is doing a job and the players are growing physically and mentally.

"We saw the defence of QPR was struggling against our players in the first half so we wanted to give a big push because we still had the power - two or three months ago, everyone was talking about the physical downfall in the second half and now we can give an extra push.

"Those are important things if you want to be successful and when you want to get consecutive results."

  6. Stoke claim Tigers win - reactionpublished at 19:44 GMT 1 January

FT: Hull City 0-1 Stoke City

Mark Robins claps his hands towards fansImage source, PA Media

Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic speaking to BBC Radio Humberside:

"It's a normal Championship game, especially at this moment where every game is coming too fast.

"You just have recovery and mental preparation. I think in these days, in this moment, whoever has more energy, more will, more desire, then you can expect something.

"I expected this type of game because, from what I saw, there were a lot of aerial challenges and long balls. I was not satisfied in the first half especially, because we didn't play; we just kicked the ball forward, which was very easy to defend.

"I'm not disappointed at all because I know the lads gave everything on the pitch. In our circumstances, we are losing every game one or two players."

Stoke City head coach Mark Robins speaking to BBC Radio Stoke:

“I’m delighted because it’s not an easy place to come. The pitch wasn’t great. What was great was the way we tried to play, the way we moved the ball on it.

“Obviously, we’ve had our challenges this week, so it’s been a really good result at the end of that.

“That’s a third game in a short space of time, and on Saturday we travel to Norwich for the game on Sunday. It’s tough, really tough, so they deserve an awful lot of credit.”

  7. 'I can only apologise to the fans' - Daviespublished at 19:41 GMT 1 January

    FT: Watford 3-0 Birmingham

Birmingham City boss Chris Davies told BBC Radio WM:

“It was a performance that was nowhere near the level required to win a football match.

“In the first half it didn’t seem there was a lot in the match at all, but the two times they got into our box they scored such easy goals.

“It seemed strange to be 2-0 down at half time considering, but we certainly didn’t do enough defensively in those key moments.

“In the second half it was a case of tyring to bring a bit of energy and trying to add something to change the dynamics slightly, but it was to no avail.

“We didn’t improve our energy, we didn’t improve our fluidity, we didn’t improve out threat and we obviously still looked susceptible to the counter attack, which is how they ended up scoring their third goal.

“I can only apologise to the fans for that performance, it was nowhere near the level required from a Birmingham City team and team I’m trying to lead here. It was a really disappointing day.”

After a busy start to the new year here's how the Championship table looks.

Sheffield United up to 15th, Leicester drop to 13th.

Dave: Cifuentes has to go. Has a squad with so much talent but absolutely no clue how to utilise it.

Ian: Another poor performance by Leicester. No ideas, no striker, it has to be time for a change and get some players in.

All is not well on or off the pitch at Leicester this season. Certainly can't see them making any sort of challenge on the top six on today's showing.

  11. 'Frustrating and soul-destroying'published at 19:29 GMT 1 January

    FT: Sheff Utd 3-1 Leicester

The Sheffield United players looked like they had a bit more grit between their teeth than our players.

We were hoping Leicester could build on the result against Derby. It's just the manor of the performance, it was flat in the first half and we didn't turn it on in the second half.

It's always difficult away from home, but it feels like one step forward and two steps back. It's really frustrating and soul-destroying.

  12. 'Sensational display from Blades'published at 19:25 GMT 1 January

    FT: Sheff Utd 3-1 Leicester

    Danny Hall
Sheffield Star journalist on BBC Radio Sheffield

If we keep playing like we have tonight, the play-offs could be on.

That was a sensational display. They set the foundations with how they were off the ball, they never let Leicester settle. They're getting the pelters they deserve from their fans.

It was a pretty emphatic 3-1 win and it could have been a lot more.

It's a very Happy New Year for Sheffield United.

Back-to-back wins for the Blades and they climb nine points clear of the bottom three and are now eight off the top six.

Leicester were largely insipid even though Jordan James scored with their first shot on target in time added on at the end of the game.

  14. 'Consolation for Leicester'published at 19:20 GMT 1 January

    Sheff Utd 3-1 Leicester

    Danny Hall
Sheffield Star journalist on BBC Radio Sheffield

It's not one he's celebrating, it's very much a consolation goal.

On the whole I don't think that should dampen any enthusiasm from a United perspective.

Not that it will count for all that much but Leicester score with their first shot on target.

Jordan James drives forward from midfield, pops a quick one-two with Jordan Ayew and then sees his deflected effort go in from about 25 yards out.

Understandably there are next to no celebrations.

  16. INJURY TIMEpublished at 19:19 GMT 1 January

    Sheff Utd 3-0 Leicester

There will be five minutes of time added on at the end of this one.

Think a lot of Leicester fans will be on their way to their trains and cars by the time the whistle is blown.

  17. 'The least United deserve'published at 19:17 GMT 1 January

    Sheff Utd 3-0 Leicester

    Danny Hall
Sheffield Star journalist on BBC Radio Sheffield

O'Hare - what a season he's having so far. He's really stepped it up and that is a strikers finish.

At 3-0 it's the least United deserve - what a start to 2026.

  18. goal

    Callum O'Hare

    Cherry on cake.

It's so, SO easy for the home side.

They pass the ball around almost entirely unchallenged before a cute ball over the top down the inside right for Femi Seriki sees the full-back square for Callum O'Hare to crash in from close range.

    Leicester abject.

  19. 'Very flat evening'published at 19:16 GMT 1 January

    Sheff Utd 2-0 Leicester

    Matty Fryatt
Former Leicester City striker on Radio Leicester

Marti Cifuentes will be pulling his hair out.

You grind out the result against Derby, you think this could be a game where they pull it together, but it's been a very flat evening.

It's not ended yet but it looks like Leicester are on their way to a defeat.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 85 mins

    Sheff Utd 2-0 Leicester

A final set of changes for the home side.

Tahith Chong, Harrison Burrows and Oli Arblaster are on for goalscorer Tom Cannon, midfielder Djibril Soumare and full-back Sam McCallum.
