The run and the finish from Harder was very, very impressive, but as defenders I think you look at it differently, and in that moment I think Le Tissier has given her too much respect.

I wonder firstly why she was back there by herself and could Lundkvist have been on the cover to stop it essentially being a one v one?

  2. Barcelona hit Real Madrid for sixpublished at 20:56 GMT

HT: Man Utd 1-1 Bayern Munich

The winner of this quarter-final tie will face either Real Madrid or Barcelona in the semi-finals.

Although, I think it's probably fair to assume that it will be the Catalan giants. They thrashed Real 6-2 earlier this evening to put themselves firmly in control going into the second leg.

Very happy with that half. After the first goal I began to fear the worst as Bayern can do that to you, however the team grew into it and deserve to be level at the break. COME ON UNITED!!

It started quickly for Bayern and you thought they would go on and dominate. Man Utd just kept their foot in the game, Le Tissier kept cool with the finish [from the penalty] and it was pretty equal by the time we got to half time.

There were a lot of bodies in there and you can see what Amani is trying to do, to just get it over them. She is leaning back, she falls over and she is never getting her foot over the ball.

Bernadette Amani falls back and covers her face after blazing the ball over the United crossbar. That was a solid chance for Bayern after Vanessa Gilles headed the corner back across the six-yard box.

Manchester United have not looked certain at the back but they have sorted themselves out to an extent and look dangerous going forward.

I would like to see Jess Park run at the Bayern defence as that could cause them a big problem.

After all the fears of the first couple of minutes, Marc Skinner's side have every reason to fancy their chances now. Bayern are no better than them.

Bayern didn't capitalise after scoring the early goal and now it is a bit more of an even contest.

It's brilliant from that side-line, Malard cuts back on the right foot and it's a searching ball in. Schuller found herself a little bit underneath it for the header, and Simon just did enough.

Melvine Malard sends in a decent delivery and Lea Schuller, under pressure from Carolin Simon, can only glance it wide.

  12. 'Rough start but Man Utd have responded well'published at 20:42 GMT

It is an important part of the game for Man Utd going towards half time. They need to stay tight and compact, it is important that they stay in the tie. It was a rough start but they have responded well and shown that bit of resilience that we have seen from them in recent months.

Lea Schuller looks desperate to score against her former side, but maybe she should have passed it there. There were United players flooding into the box but the German forward swipes her strike wide.

This game is being played at a frantic pace, with both teams pressing aggressively. Surely they can't keep this up for 90 minutes.

A superb ball from Giulia Gwinn and a great run from Pernille Harder, but Maya Le Tissier comes to the rescue with a brilliant defensive header to stop the Dane from nodding in another for the visitors.

You want players that are effective in front of goal interested and involved in the game. Malard you want her in those inside areas, making those out to in runs.

Some nice link-up play from Manchester United before Melvine Malard lets fly from the edge of the box.

Just not enough power to beat Ena Mahmutovic.

No major tournament for the Lionesses this year, but I'm sure the English players will still be keen to impress the manager this evening.

Not often you can say a penalty 'should have been saved'. But oof, Le Tissier got lucky there. Keeper was slow and late and didn't get to a ball that was barely a yard away from her.

It doesn't matter how you score, just that you do.

Ena Mahmutovic didn't cover herself in glory then. She didn't really stretch out to make a save. If she had, she might well have stopped Maya Le Tissier's penalty because it was nowhere near the corner.

Manchester United's players had an impromptu huddle before play restarted.

They have escaped that disastrous start. The tie starts now.
