Oxford United have yet to score in Matt Bloomfield's two games in charge

Oxford United and Queens Park Rangers both recorded their second goalless draw in four days, in difficult conditions at the Kassam Stadium.

Rangers had the clearest chance of the first half, when U's keeper Jamie Cumming brilliantly denied Paul Smyth's bending effort.

Oxford's best opportunity fell to Stan Mills, who latched on to Myles Peart-Harris's inviting cross but side-footed over from close range.

One worry for QPR was an injury to 19-year-old Esquerdinha, who was stretchered off after 64 minutes.

Matt Bloomfield's debut as Oxford boss on Saturday, against Bristol City, also ended 0-0 and they remain four points adrift of safety after this latest draw.

They went close twice early on, with Sam Long just clearing the crossbar and Mills shooting narrowly wide.

QPR, frustrated when Cumming saved superbly from Smyth, then had to regroup after the lengthy stoppage while Esquerdinha received treatment, leading to nine minutes of time added on.

And they had an opportunity to win it during that period as Daniel Bennie stretched to meet a low cross but couldn't get a telling touch and the ball flew past the post.

Rangers' second goalless draw extends their time without conceding a goal to 270 minutes, but doesn't help them narrow the gap on the top six.

For Bloomfield, back-to-back home games without scoring might go down as a missed opportunity to kickstart his reign.

'Another point on the board' - Oxford reaction

Oxford United head coach Matt Bloomfield told BBC Radio Oxford:

"I'm really pleased with another clean sheet, I'm really pleased with the way the lads have given us absolutely everything.

"We've put another point on the board, which we've got to be pleased about, but those moments are not quite going for us.

"If we start to take those moments, then things will start to kick on. We have to believe in that.

"Paul Smyth was causing us a few problems in the first half, we adjusted a couple of things tactically, we allowed Brodie [Spencer] to go a little bit tighter on him and that nullified that threat in the second half."

'We needed more quality' - QPR reaction

QPR head coach Julien Stephan told BBC Radio London:

"The only disappointment is not creating more danger in the penalty area. We prepared the situation well, we had good ideas to create the momentum, but we need just a little bit more quality in the last pass and the last move in the penalty area.

"[The conditions] were really difficult for the players. For me, it's the worst thing to play with wind. That's why I want to highlight the mentality of the players. They never gave up and wanted to have another clean sheet, the third one in four games.

"It's part of consistency. It's a good sign of improvement for these players because we struggled in the first part of the season, away, especially in November and December."

On Esquerdinha's injury prognosis:

"I don't know, exactly. I spoke with him – he was in the shower when we came back in the dressing room.

"It was not too bad for him. We need to wait one or two days in order to do a scan and a real assessment."
