Aston Villa have won just two of their last nine matches in all competitions as they have dropped out of the Premier League title hunt and are now looking over their shoulders in the race for Champions League qualification.

But boss Unai Emery – three times a Europa League winner as Sevilla head coach – has called for perspective.

“It (our form) can feel a little strange, but we are playing the second leg in the last 16 of the Europa League, and when we arrived here three and a half years ago, it was a dream in that moment,” the Spaniard said.

“Wow, it was so difficult to think we could achieve it in the period time we have, so quick. And how we are being consistent in Premier League, being fourth, even though we have lost in the last three matches, we are fourth in the league.

“It was a huge dream three years ago. Of course, we are being so, so demanding, and sometimes to be demanding like we are, we can become as frustrated.”

Villa would face Roma or Bologna if they can get past Ligue 1 side Lille.

Five minutes left of this extra time first half and so far there's been no real clear-cut chances.

    Which way will this go?

That's a massive goal for Palace. They've stayed patient, good ingenuity from the set piece, just worked it short

Sarr has come onto it beautifully, no shortage of confidence. He keeps looking for it, keeps wanting the ball and this time there was no missing from there.

    It’s him again!

Adam Wharton plays a short corner to Daichi Kamada, who drills a ball across the face of goal for Ismaila Sarr to finish from close range and put the Eagles on the brink of a place in the last eight of the Conference League!

Ismaila Sarr has to do better, again!

He gets his header all wrong from roughly 10 yards out after a lovely, clipped pass from Yeremi Pino.

I think Forest have been excellent. They weren't bad in the first tie but Midtjylland just got their noses in front.

With all the changes tonight, the flow and freedom they played with in the first half was a real breath of fresh air.

Stunning play from Lorenzo Lucca to take the ball down and produce a little backheel to try and create something for his side but the visitors can't break the Midtjylland defence down.

Great running from Ola Aina, that same combination of Gibbs-White turning it over. Lucca was pushed offside. Good finish in the end, to no avail.

It sums the game up that he was pushed offside. Such a physical battle.

Forest have played really well tonight so they will be disappointed that they're having to play extra time.

For the hosts Adam Gabriel replaces Ousmane Diao.

Aston Villa v Lille (20:00 GMT, 1-0 agg)

Lille were too neutral in the first leg at home considering the difficult time Asotn Villa are having right now in the Premier League. It felt very passive from the French side when they should have been on the front foot.

They missed a bit of an opportunity in that first leg. But just a one-goal deficit, they will believe if they score early they might get something, especially with Olivier Giroud up front.

Aston Villa captain John McGinn is determined his side will not be remembered as a “maybe team” as they hunt for Europa League glory.

Villa have had a memorable few years under boss Unai Emery, challenging at the top end of the Premier League and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

They are closing in on the quarter-finals of the Europa League this season, leading Lille 1-0 after the first leg of their last-16 tie, and McGinn says it is time to mark their story with some silverware.

“That’s what the manager has driven into us,” the Scotland midfielder said. “He’s a manager who has a reputation of not getting close to the finish line, he’s got a reputation of getting over the finish line.

“So we don’t want to be a maybe team. We don’t want to be a team like, ‘Aye, they were not bad’. We want something to show for it.

“And we know we’ve got an expectation and are one of the favourites to win the competition. We know that, but it’s up to us to deliver performances and results that prove why we’re one of the favourites because of how we’ve played over the last few years, domestically and in Europe.”
