Oldham made it six games unbeaten with a comfortable 3-1 win over managerless Tranmere at Prenton Park – Rovers' fifth consecutive defeat.

Goals from Mike Fondop, Calum Kavanagh and Jack Stevens sealed an 11th loss in 12 for the hosts, who now sit just seven points clear of the relegation zone in League Two.

Latics took the lead after 20 minutes. Fondop latched onto Manny Monthe's lofted through-ball before sensationally looping the ball over stranded goalkeeper Joe Murphy and into the top-left corner.

Tranmere had to wait until stoppage time for their first chance as both Nohan Kenneh and Joe Ironside came close to finding the leveller from inside the box.

But Oldham doubled their advantage shortly afterwards when Kavanagh coolly slotted past Murphy, sparking boos from the frustrated home crowd.

Stevens secured all three points in the 74th minute, converting a penalty down the middle after Murphy had brought down Kane Drummond.

Zech Obiero pulled one back for Rovers in added time, curling home from distance to prevent Micky Mellon's side from recording a fifth straight clean sheet.
