Late January additions would be a 'bonus' for Wrexham

Phil Parkinson says it would be a "bonus" if Wrexham bolster their squad in the final stages of the January transfer window after stating he is happy with the options he currently has at his disposal.

The Red Dragons are yet to add to their squad since the turn of the year having made 13 signings in total during the summer.

But they have been linked with a number of forwards, including Angers' Sidiki Cherif, Southampton's Adam Armstrong and Barnsley's Davis Keillor-Dunn - who played for the Red Dragons in 2020.

"Players are always linked with us," he said. "We've been streamlining the squad and that work is ongoing.

"If someone comes in, it will be a bonus.

"As I've said before, there's certain players out there we're looking at and negotiations sometimes take longer than you'd ideally like for several different reasons.

"If someone comes in great, if it doesn't [materialise] then I'm pleased with what we've got."

Having already allowed Jake Bickerstaff and James McClean to join Cheltenham Town and Derry City respectively on permanent deals this month, Wrexham's squad numbers have continued to decrease with the loan exits of Conor Coady and Andy Cannon this week.

Defender Coady featured just six times for the Red Dragons after joining from Leicester City in the summer and will spend the remainder of the campaign at Charlton Athletic.

Midfielder Cannon has been sidelined for almost a year with an ACL injury but joined League One Burton Albion on loan this week.

"The 25-man squad's got to be named at the back end of next week so we're trying to avoid a situation where players are here and not in that squad," said Parkinson.

"The lads who've gone out so far, Andy Cannon needed to get some minutes.

"We could have got Andy in the 25 perhaps, and he would have been a valuable addition to that, but for his own career he had to go somewhere where he felt he was going to play.

"Conor Coady's gone to Charlton. Conor wanted to get some minutes between now and the end of the season and Charlton have offered him that opportunity."

Midfielder Elliot Lee and striker Paul Mullin - who both featured in Wrexham's Central League fixture with Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday - remain in the frame to leave the club prior to Monday's 19:00 GMT deadline.

Forward Ryan Hardie has started just two Championship matches since moving to north Wales from Plymouth Argyle last summer and could also attract interest over the coming days.
