Danny Rohl says there is no pressure on Rangers title race

Rangers head coach Danny Rohl says "nobody likes to see" the ugly scenes that marred the Scottish Cup quarter-final meeting with Celtic last weekend and that "it should not have happened".

After Celtic secured a penalty shoot-out victory, supporters of both clubs spilled on to the pitch while police and security attempted to restore order.

Both clubs released statements on Thursday condemning supporter behaviour.

Rohl suggested there may be consequences from an investigation but added that it would be a "shame" if away fans allocations were reduced or removed.

"I think nobody likes to see this," he said.

"I think it was a big part after the game. We didn't speak about football, we speak about all the other things around on the pitch, off the pitch.

"It was, over 120 minutes, an exciting game. A lot of good emotion. This is what we want and then after, the only topic was the situation on the pitch and it should be not happened."

"I like to have this Old Firm with supporters from both sides. I think this is great, this makes the football exciting, it makes the atmosphere in the stadium

"I think there's an investigation and then they will look for all these things and then finally there will be some consequence. Let's see what happens."

Rangers resume their quest to lift the Scottish Premiership away to managerless St Mirren on Sunday, currently trailing leaders Hearts by six points and Celtic by one.

The German dismissed the idea that there is now extra pressure on the title run-in given that it is now the only chance of silverware for the Ibrox club this season.

"It's not extra pressure because our demand is still in the league to win the nine cup finals," he explained.

"We need a good position and then in the split I think everything is possible.

"We took a lot of good points against the teams around us and this should be our goal. It's our job to bring the momentum back.

"I think we have a big trust in ourselves and the title race is still close, six points, it's two match-days. Our goal difference is not so bad. This is also important and let's go forward.
