Truro City manager John Askey said his side have "a great chance to stay up" after their first away win in the National League.

The Cornish club, who won National League South last season, won 2-1 at Morecambe for their first victory outside the Duchy since promotion.

Their last away win came 293 days ago when they were victorious at Weston-super-Mare.

"You get disappointed that you're not winning, but it's not something that we've ever got too down about," Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"We just know that as the season goes on we'll improve and we are doing.

"We've had to get to grips with a lot of things, getting the travel right, the right recovery and hopefully that's starting to show a little bit now.

"Our last five or six games, apart from the Rochdale game, I think we're looking better and if we can keep improving then we've got great chance to stay up."

The win extends Truro's best run of form since in their first-ever season in the fifth tier.

They have lost just once in their six league games since Christmas - at leaders Rochdale - picking up nine points along the way as well as making the National League Cup semi-finals.

Victory at Morecambe moved Truro up to third-from-bottom of the table, four points from safety with 17 games to play.

"We all knew what was at stake and the players have responded again," he added.

"I thought right from the off we did really well.

"First off I thought we went in deservedly two goals up and then we shot ourselves in the foot, second half you're saying 'just keep doing what we're doing' and then we give a give a daft goal away and and then you're under pressure.

"But the majority of the times I thought we dealt with it quite well.

"The performance and the attitude of the players, every single one of them worked really hard today and you couldn't fault anybody.

"If we can keep that doing that from now until the end of the season then then we'll be fine."
