Celtic's Scottish Premiership visit to Aberdeen has been postponed, along with Dundee's match with Motherwell, after heavy rain in the north east.

Aberdeen announced the Pittodrie pitch had been deemed unfit for play at 16:23 GMT.

Fourth official Greg Soutar conducted an inspection, with the club saying he had called the game off "in the interests of player safety".

Celtic had been seeking to narrow the gap on leaders Heart of Midlothian to three points.

Dundee arranged a precautionary inspection with the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) and the decision was made shortly before 16:00 to call the match off "due to unprecedented rainfall".

"The borderline decision was made by the match referee, and details of the rearranged fixture will be made available as soon as possible," said a Dundee statement.

Dundee struggled with the Dens Park pitch two seasons ago and admitted to five breaches of SPFL rules following a series of postponements because of waterlogging.

Three games go ahead, with Rangers, also six points adrift of Hearts, hosting Kilmarnock.
