Caernarfon beat Rhyl to reach first Welsh Cup final

Caernarfon Town are in the Welsh Cup final for the first time in their history after beating Rhyl 1879 2-1 at Colwyn Bay's Blue Turtle Arena on Sunday in their semi-final.

The Canaries will face Flint Town United in the Welsh Cup final next month.

Striker Bradley Young put Caernarfon ahead, threading the ball through a crowded penalty area from a corner early in the second half.

Zach Clarke added Caernarfon's second from close range as they again broke second-tier Rhyl's impressive resistance.

Rhyl did give their fans something to cheer as they scored in the 96th minute through Ben Lightfoot, however, it was too late to prevent Caernarfon progressing.

Flint hammered Bangor 5-1 on Saturday in the weekend's first semi-final to retain hopes of a first Cup triumph since 1954.

The final will be played at Rodney Parade, Newport on Sunday, 12 April.
