Ryan Yates was sent off 11 minutes into the second half
Bristol City failed to find a winner against 10-man Nottingham Forest as the promotion rivals shared a goalless draw.
The visitors were a man down for the final 34 minutes after Ryan Yates was given a straight red card for a two-footed lunge on Hungary midfielder Adam Nagy.
Yates had almost inadvertently given the home side the lead shortly before his dismissal, turning Andreas Weimann's effort on to the post.
That proved to be the closest City came to a goal and the result saw both sides miss the chance to climb to fourth in the Championship table, with Swansea City losing at home to Millwall.
Bristol City's unbeaten run stretched to five games with their third draw in that spell, but they remain unbeaten at Ashton Gate since losing to Leeds United on the opening weekend of the season.
Forest had been bidding for a third straight win, buoyed by their victory over local rivals Derby County last time out, and Yates almost gave them an early lead but his close-range effort was cleared off the line by Famara Diedhiou.
The game was even before the Forest midfielder was sent off, and the visitors arguably had the best chance to win it afterwards when Lewis Grabban looked to dink the ball over Daniel Bentley but his effort dropped just wide.
Lee Johnson's side stay seventh, level on points with Forest who move above Swansea to fifth on goal difference.
Bristol City manager Lee Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol:
"We had a lot of final third entries but couldn't quite get that moment of brilliance or class to seal it.
"I can't criticise the players today but at the same time we have let them off the hook, through either a poor decision from the referee or us overcooking it at times.
"It was a good game as far as nil nils go, but we want to make sure we are adding little more quality in our home games."
Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi:
"I am so proud of my players. Ryan has made a mistake with the tackle that saw him sent-off and I can see why the referee made the decision.
"He was very angry and upset with himself after the game because he knew what he did could have cost us an important result.
"We deserved our point and missed one very good chance to take all three. As always, the support from our fans was incredible."
