Liam McAlinden's first-half strike proved enough as Halifax moved top of the National League after edging to victory over Maidenhead at York Road.
The visitors got off to a strong start with top scorer McAlinden firing home his seventh league goal of the season after just two minutes.
The Magpies searched for an equaliser and they came close on the stroke of half-time but Bernard Mensah failed to convert Seth Nana Twumasi's cross.
Charlie Cooper's free-kick sailed just wide of the Maidenhead goal five minutes after the break and the Shaymen had a great chance to double their lead again at the death but goalkeeper Chris Dunn kept out Jeff King's effort.
