Huddersfield Town 3-0 Hull City: Juninho Bacuna inspires Terriers to second victory

Huddersfield Town recorded back-to-back league wins for the first time since February 2018 as they beat Hull City in the Championship.

Karlan Grant gave the Terriers a 69th-minute lead as he volleyed home Juninho Bacuna's fizzed pass on the turn.

Six minutes later substitute Bacuna, who had come on just before setting up the opener, made the game safe as he placed Adama Diakhaby's pass into the bottom corner.

Elias Kachunga wrapped up the points as he got on the end of Lewis O'Brien's low cross.

Huddersfield, who also won two successive games for the first time since September 2017, climb above Reading and Barnsley to move out of the relegation places, while Hull slip to 16th place.

New boss Danny Cowley, who led Town to their first victory of the season at Stoke on Tuesday night, has now won two of his four games in charge - with Bacuna to thank for both of them.

Having scored the only goal at Stoke on Tuesday, his introduction for Jonathan Hogg with 23 minutes remaining turned the tables for a side that lost seven of their first eight games, but have now won two and drawn the other of their last three.

Hull's defeat was only the second time they had lost to Huddersfield in 14 games in the second tier, and a poor second-half showing cost them dear.

George Honeyman and Tom Eaves had good efforts saved by Kamil Grabara at either end of the opening period, but they failed to seriously test the hosts after the break as they lost for the first time since 24 August.

Huddersfield manager Danny Cowley:

"It was a good performance, we started the game well in the first 15 minutes playing with and energy and intensity.

"We tweaked bits at half-time and came out with more rhythm and fluency but it was still in the balance but we found that very important first goal and it gave us a very good place in the game.

"To score three goals and keep back-to-back clean sheets bodes well for what is to come.

"We're trying to reconnect with the supporters and the players are fighting for the cause - we are in a relegation battle but we are together now and that can be really important, the supporters deserved that today."

Hull manager Grant McCann:

"I felt that the result was coming because we were off from the first minute and were lucky to be 0-0 at the break.

"Sometimes you have to give the opposition credit, they were better than us and we have to hold our hands up and learn from it.

"It is the first time I can say my team has lacked aggression and energy, they had more than us and that is what won them the game.

"We have to move on and assess the defeat. We have to come back from the international break in a better place."
