Scott Boden scored the only goal of the game as Chesterfield claimed a first win of the National League season - 1-0 at home to Torquay.
The winner came after just 12 minutes when Boden finished from close range.
Tom Denton saw a header cleared off the line by Liam Davis six minutes later and Liam Mandeville was denied by goalkeeper Lucas Covolan as the Spireites went in search of a second before the half-time break.
Jamie Reid was not too far away as Torquay threatened after the break and although they dominated the closing stages, the Gulls could not find an equaliser.
