Torquay United 4-0 Maidenhead United

  • Published

Bottom club Torquay United won for the first time in the National League this season with an emphatic victory at home to Maidenhead.

The hosts struck four times in the opening half to blow away their opponents as they recorded a first win of the campaign at the 14th attempt.

Kick-off at Plainmoor was delayed by half an hour as Maidenhead were held up by traffic and Torquay wasted little time in asserting their dominance when play got under way.

Josh McQuoid headed in the opening goal after only four minutes, then Luke Young rifled the second into the bottom corner a mere eight minutes later.

Rhys Murphy made it three from close range in the 21st minute before Jamie Reid made it a first half to forget for the visitors with a fourth Torquay goal a minute before the break.

Maidenhead were improved after the interval, but could not even find a consolation as basement boys Torquay moved to within a point of second-bottom Solihull Moors.
