Kilmarnock 1-1 Dundee

Kilmarnock fought back to draw with Dundee in the Scottish Premiership but are still without a league win this season.

Faissal El Bakhtaoui punished lacklustre Killie defending by firing the visitors ahead early on.

The hosts levelled in the second period, Gordon Greer netting after latching on to Kris Boyd's header.

El Bakhtaoui was denied a second by goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald and Boyd missed a late chance for Killie.

Lee McCulloch's side are bottom of the Scottish Premiership on goal difference behind Partick Thistle and trail Ross County by one point and Neil McCann's Dundee by two points.

There was a scary moment for defender Greer when he stumbled on the ball on his own penalty spot in the third minute. El Bakhtaoui almost took advantage but the Scotland international managed to recover and clear.

But there was no let-off for the home defence within 60 seconds as Dundee opened the scoring. A-Jay Leitch-Smith turned and drilled a shot goalwards from 12 yards, which MacDonald got down low to his left to parry, and El Bakhtaoui made no mistake to convert the rebound.

Lee Erwin twice came close to getting a quick equaliser. He had a 20-yard free-kick saved by Scott Bain and the Dundee keeper made another fine stop to deny the Killie striker when he was clean through, this time advancing to block a shot with his feet.

Bain was winning the early contest with Erwin as the striker again tried his luck with a long-range effort that the goalkeeper stretched to hold.

Killie kept up the pressure and came close on a further two occasions just before the interval. The talented Jordan Jones got down the left wing before clipping the ball back for Adam Frizzell. He latched onto the cross with a powerful shot, which was blocked by Kevin Holt.

Stuart Findlay was next to be denied by Bain as he rose to get his head to a Jones free-kick on the left.

Tempers became heated just as the half-time whistle sounded after Jones had gone down in the box under the challenge of Roarie Deacon and appealed for a penalty. As the players headed towards the tunnel he first got into an argument with Jack Hendry and then Holt as the Dundee players took exception to his claim.

Dundee brought former Killie midfielder Mark O'Hara on for Scott Allan early in the second half and he almost scored with his first contribution - a left-foot curling shot that flew just wide.

Killie brought on Boyd for Frizzell, changed to a 4-2-4 formation and got an immediate reward with an equaliser.

Jones swung in a corner kick from the left and Boyd at the back post headed down for Greer to blast into the net from six yards.

It was Greer's first goal since returning to Rugby Park this summer and his fifth in two spells for the Ayrshire club.

El Bakhtaoui tried his luck with a ferocious 25-yard strike that was superbly tipped on to the bar by MacDonald before going over.

Killie really should have claimed their first league win of the season with their last effort but their talisman Boyd missed a sitter with the last kick of the ball. Erwin's cross from the right dropped to the striker six yards out and he miscued his left-foot shot, diverting wide with the goal gaping.

Kilmarnock manager Lee McCulloch: "Pretty pleased with the character we showed because after three minutes we've gifted Dundee a goal. After that our heads could've gone down but they didn't.

"I'm pleased especially with the second-half performance and probably should have deserved the three points. There were a couple of half-chances and a couple of good chances and we were pretty sound after the goal.

"The way we want to play, mistakes are going to happen and it's just taking it on the chin and reacting and we did that today.

"It's only one defeat in our last four matches so there is a little bit of positivity there. We would have liked to have our first win by now but you'll not get anything negative from me or any of the players.

"If there are any chances going about you want them to fall to Kris Boyd. At the time I thought that's a very good chance but having seen it again it's checked up on the surface and it's in between his legs so I think he was a little bit indecisive about which foot to kick it with because of the check on the surface. Nine times out of 10 Boydy scores that."

Dundee manager Neil McCann: "I'm pleased we are coming away with a point because I think we are lucky to get a point. The exertions of Wednesday night against a top Celtic side and how much effort they put in clearly had an effect on us in terms of our sharpness today.

"I think they worked in areas but there was no spark at all and we couldn't have asked to get off to a better start with the goal. But really poor in possession, giving the ball away far far too much, we just looked a wee bit leggy.

"So I think a point we're happy with because it could easily have been nothing, especially with Kris Boyd having that clear chance towards the end."
