Gateshead 2-1 Eastleigh

  • Published

Gateshead moved to within a point of the National League play-off places with a narrow victory over Eastleigh.

Midfielder Patrick Mclaughlin netted only his third goal of the season to open the scoring for the hosts after only 19 minutes.

Ryan Bowman then doubled the Tynesiders lead five minutes later.

Josh Payne clawed a goal back for the visitors with an excellent strike from distance but Eastleigh were unable to find an equaliser.

The Spitfires dropped to eighth following the defeat but still remain just two points off sixth-placed Dover.
