Is Tariq's action in the spirit of the game? The rules state that an unnatural pause or delay is deemed “unfair play”.

  2. Eng 65-4published at 8.3 overs

Usman Tariq has two elbows in his arm which I think partially explains the kink that Matthew is referring to.

Shadab Khan continues for Pakistan. Their spinners are turning the screw, now.

Will England wilt under the pressure?

Usman Tariq was celebrating not too far away from Tom Banton there.

People may remember the International League T20 earlier this year, where there was a lot of talk about Tariq's action.

I would like to add that he's been cleared twice, but Banton was one who seemed to suggest there is a kink in the arm of his action. He actually questioned it to the umpire during a game.

Tariq has obviously got him on the first ball there and then celebrated quite close to his face - a bit of revenge perhaps?

  4. Eng 63-4published at 8 overs

Tidy over from Usman Tariq to start.

    A good battle this.

  5. Eng 60-4published at 7.3 overs

Harry Brook waits patiently with the delay-release action from Usman Tariq, and punches it through the covers for a single.

I keep saying this, but our cricket is a joke. The powerplay has just finished and Sam Curran is in. What a shambles of a batting side we are! Harry Brook is the only class player we have. The others are nothing more than mediocre county players, at best.

    John, Poulton-le-Fylde

  7. Eng 59-4published at 7.2 overs

The left-handed Sam Curran off the mark with a dab into the off side off Usman Tariq.

Harry Brook vs Usman Tariq should be interesting here.

    Banton c Khan b Tariq 2 (Eng 58-4)

First ball from the delay-release action of Usman Tariq and it does for Tom Banton.

The England batter attempts to cut the Pakistan mystery spinner's googly and edges into the gloves of Usman Khan.

A slip goes in. Pakistan smell blood.

It's interesting to see that Pakistan coach Mike Hesson has come out in all three drinks breaks so far.

It's not something we've seen from Brendon McCullum, which isn't a criticism but it shows how different coaches do different things. Hesson much more hands-on.

  11. Eng 58-3published at 7 overs

Shadab Khan outfoxes the advancing Harry Brook with a googly but the England skipper escapes with an inside edge which just misses leg stump.

Brook is unbeaten on 45 off 23 balls.

Harry Brook is benefitting from being in during the powerplay because he is by no means middling some of his shots.

They may not have carried to a fielder running off the boundary, if there was one there, but he can play these shots because of that.

  13. Eng 56-3published at 6.4 overs

Tom Banton bungles a reverse sweep off Shadab Khan then picks up a single with a more orthodox poke down the ground.

Harry Brook then picks up a couple with a nudge through mid-wicket.

Play yourself in and chase down the total. Why, oh why, are we throwing away our wickets?

Shadab Khan fizzes the ball in his palms as he prepares to bowl the first over after the drinks break.

Tom Banton punches his first ball square but there's no run on offer.

How long before we see Banton sweep and reverse sweep?

  16. drinks break

England 53-3 at drinkspublished at 6 overs

Beverage time at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium.

England have lost a few wickets but will be happy with their run rate.

Much depends on Harry Brook here, you sense.

It has been a very bizarre tournament from England's perspective. Loss to West Indies, followed by very nervy wins against minnows. But then Australia actually go out. Then we beat Sri Lanka quite well, who had beaten Australia. It's not a perfect start to a chase, but I can't count England out yet.

  18. 6 runs

    Eng 53-3published at 6 overs

Deep in his crease to Mohammad Nawaz and Harry Book proceeds to dispatch the Pakistan spinner back over his head for six.

A meaty bottom-handed wallop from the England skipper.

  19. Eng 47-3published at 5.5 overs

Tom Banton the new batter as Mohammad Nawaz begins his first over.

"Shabash, Shabash" chirps Usman Khan from behind the stumps after his first couple of deliveries but Harry Brook ups the ante when he gets on strike.

The England skipper strikes back-to-back fours including a flamboyant inside-out drive which flies through the covers.

That almost sums up everything we've seen from England throughout this tournament.

The batters get in, get a little bit of a start and then pick out a fielder in the deep. It has happened all the way through this tournament, again and again.
