A wonderful shot from Sahibzada Farhan and it's almost gone out of the ground. After no sixes from Pakistan we have two in three balls.

  2. 6 runs

    Pak 104-3published at 13.3 overs

Sahibzada Farhan wants a bit of the fun now!

He whacks one high in the sky towards deep mid-wicket and it soars into the stands.

    Stunning!

That was flat and straight from Fakar Zaman. It's hit low on the bat and it's not gone high but it's gone very straight. Pakistan's first six of the innings.

  4. 6 runs

    Pak 97-3published at 13.1 overs

The first six of the innings, finally!

Fakhar Zaman slaps Will Jacks down the ground and over the ropes.

A free hit for Pakistan after a no-ball because Jofra Archer was not in the circle. There's a bit of sloppiness for England, even if it was a swing and miss that cost nothing.

  6. Pak 91-3published at 13 overs

Adil Rashid is really not happy with his man at deep mid-wicket, or with Jofra Archer.

His latest over could've gone for just two runs, but Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan manages to find another four.

It brings him up to six fours in this innings.

Rashid only had to bowl that extra ball because Archer drifted outside the ring at the start of the over, conceding a no-ball.

Fakar Zaman averages just 18 against leg-spin since the start of 2025. Adil Rashid is the perfect match up for him here on a turning track.

Pakistan's middle order is shaky. There aren't the players at the moment you can bank on to get you a big score. They think they can put a target on, though, and then back their bowlers.

  10. Pak 84-3published at 12 overs

Pakistan might still be on the hunt for their first six of this innings, but Fakhar Zaman manages to find back-to-back fours off Will Jacks.

They claim 11 runs off his first over with the ball in hand, but their run rate is still all the way down at 7.00...

  11. Pak 73-3published at 11 overs

Another over bites the dust for Pakistan - and it is another brilliant over for Jamie Overton, who claims one wicket and concedes just three runs.

    Clinical stuff.

Babar Azam was looking for a big booming pull shot and that length was perfect from Jamie Overton.

It's not quite got up as much as Babar Azam thought it would and it has gone under his bat.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 10.4 overs

    Babar b Overton 25 (Pak 73-3)

Jamie Overton gets the third by whipping the bails off the off stump!

Babar Azam is sent back to the pavilion for 25 off 23.

He was only getting around a run per ball though, with a more aggressive batter in Fakhar Zaman coming in now.

Pakistan are 73-3 - not ideal reading for their fans.

It's been very impressive from England's bowlers at the halfway stage. Pakistan's batters have lacked a bit of dynamism.

  16. Pak 70-2published at 10 overs

Pakistan fail to find a boundary for the third consecutive over.

It feels as though Sahibzada Farhan and Babar Azam have gone into consolidation mode out there, which is definitely not what they need.

The England spinners are bowling really well though, they are doing their part to restrict the runs - just four came off Adil Rashid's latest over.

We have seen 2.8° of spin on average so far in this game - the highest of any game in the tournament to date. Still early days but all indications are that chasing will be tricky on this pitch.

  18. Pak 66-2published at 9 overs

This run rate definitely feels below-par for Pakistan.

Salman Ali Agha's team take just five runs off the ninth over, we are rapidly approaching the halfway stage and it feels they are below target.

I suppose it's a sign of great bowling from England's Liam Dawson!

Early indications are that this pitch will take spin - Liam Dawson found 2.4° of spin on average from his first two overs - far more than in the previous game played in Kandy (1.9°)

  20. Pak 61-2published at 8 overs

Adil Rashid steps up for his first over of the evening.

The leg-spinner, tidy as ever, keeps Pakistan to just six runs off the over.

Brilliant tight bowling in these early stages.
