Despite a rather damp finish, what an entertaining four days we have had across Divisions One and Two in the County Championship.

Yorkshire were the big winners this afternoon as they pulled off a historic innings victory - their first in a decade - against an out of sorts Surrey side with a terrific team performance which included those three wickets from Harry Brook last night.

Derbyshire completed a seven-wicket victory at the home of cricket against Middlesex and Northamptonshire came through a nail-biting match at Gloucestershire to win by two-wickets.

Nottinghamshire remain top of a very tight Division One with the 11 points they picked up on the road in the draw at Hampshire who stay bottom, while Durham are 20 points clear in Division Two.

Thanks for your company over the past four days - now it's time for the T20 Blast to take centre stage on Friday.

  4. SOMERSET DRAW WITH SUSSEXpublished at 17:57 BST
    Breaking

    Somerset 526-8d v Sussex 253 & 113-7 f/o

We've been off the field since just after 1600 BST with more rain to come so the umpires have called time on this game.

Frustration for Somerset after centuries from Tom Abell and Craig Overton helped the hosts to a big first innings total.

Overton went on to take five wickets in the match but it was in fact Tom Lammonby who started the Sussex decline in the first innings, removing Dan Hughes for 107, starting a slide from 204-3 to 213-7.

Somerset continued to attack with spin this afternoon when the light was fading, Archie Vaughan taking two wickets, including Charlie Tear, to leave Sussex 95-6 following on.

Alfie Ogborne later removed Fynn Hudson-Prentice and it was 110-7 at that point. But John Simpson dug in for an unbeaten 12 off 65 balls. Sussex get the draw and a bit of respite ahead of the T20 games.

Somerset pick up 15 points, Sussex 10.

  5. Glos are 'making progress' - Alleynepublished at 17:45 BST

    Gloucestershire 154 & 221 v Northants 127 & 251-8

    Mark AlleyneImage source, Shutterstock

Gloucestershire head coach Mark Alleyne believes his team are improving despite suffering their fifth defeat of the season against Northamptonshire, by two wickets.

"There is a certain level of optimism in the camp, because we have been so competitive in recent games," he said.

"The manner of this defeat is a far cry from those innings defeats we suffered at the start of the season and shows we have made progress.

"We've competed really well from day one to day four here and that's a tick in the box. But there comes a point when we just need to get over the line and we have now lost five out of six games, which I think is probably unprecedented for us in Championship cricket.

"Losing Gabe Bell to a sore back today made it feel as though things were conspiring against us a little bit after we had done so much hard work. Our bowling cartel has been small from the outset and it will be good for some of those guys to have a rest now."

  7. Brook 'bowled nicely', admits Rootpublished at 17:35 BST

    Yorkshire 486 v Surrey 204 & 155

Joe Root and Harry BrookImage source, SWPix

Yorkshire batter Joe Root is expecting further reminders from Harry Brook about his bowling prowess after his England team-mate took three wickets on Sunday to help Yorkshire towards today's innings win over Surrey.

"He’s even been talking about how he was using the crease. I was like, ‘It’s getting too much now’," laughed Root.

“Look, it’s good. If there are different ways you can affect the game, that’s what you pride yourself on as a player. You want to look at different ways you can help your captain and the guys out.

“It was actually a really nice ball which got (Jamie) Smith out, wasn’t it. I’m not sure about the other two, but he bowled nicely as a whole on that surface.”

  8. Derbyshire 'confidence has grown' - Arthurpublished at 17:31 BST

    Middlesex 177 & 320 v Derbyshire 376 & 124-3

    Mickey ArthurImage source, Getty Images

Derbyshire head of cricket Mickey Arthur pronounced himself "really chuffed" after they completed a seven-wicket win over Middlesex at Lord's earlier on.

"Those little run chases are always difficult. It wasn't about our skills, today was about the mental battle of executing those skills under pressure and I thought we came through that really well," he said.

"We're probably six bowlers down and yet the guys have come forward and put in performances that ultimately got us over the line and confidence has grown in that dressing room, it's a good place to be.

"It was Ben Aitchison's game again – he's been incredible. It's just been his season so far – he's bowled the most overs in the County Championship and backed it up now with a hundred as nightwatchman."

  9. Hopes fading at Tauntonpublished at 17:26 BST

    Somerset 526-8d v Sussex 253 & 113-7 f/o

Sussex remain 160 in arrears following on - and safely in the dressing room since rain forced the players off within two overs after tea.

The covers remain on with no visible sign of ground staff activity at the time of writing - or news of a planned inspection.

Frustration for Somerset who have had much the better of this match for the lion's share of its duration.

  10. get involved

    Get Involvedpublished at 17:25 BST

As Somerset had all the luck with the weather and conditions when they were batting (and bowling), its only fair that Sussex get some luck with the rain. A draw would be a just result.

    Richard, Sussex

The break has come at the right time for Sussex, as they haven't been able to rotate the bowlers due to injuries and having a small squad, so hopefully they will be refreshed for June 12th

    Somerset 526-8d v Sussex 253 & 113-7 f/o

It's usually a bad sign if you can't make out the Quantocks from the ground here.

Well, they're just visible at the time of writing.

Three members of the ground staff are standing on the corner of one of the covers adjacent to the main square, possibly concerned about the state of the outfield.

Nothing official either way on this one yet.

Can’t help but feel the rain is working for Sussex today. Does Ollie Robinson’s England selection provide him with rain powers as captain at a county level too?

    Adam, Devon

What's gone wrong at Surrey? A pitiful display again, both batters and bowlers. So many no balls and poor decisions from the captain. Time for a rethink and get back in the game.

  15. HAMPSHIRE DRAW WITH NOTTINGHAMSHIREpublished at 16:53 BST

    Hampshire 207-6 & 214 v Notts 229

There was a change of bowler for Notts - Joe Clarke, who decided to keep his cap on while bowling.

The first two deliveries are, shall we say, looseners. The third is actually a no ball.

The umpires must have seen enough because, after the fourth delivery, hands are shaken and the match is officially drawn.

A wonderful knock by Jake Lehmann, of 102, played a major part in securing a draw for Hants and Notts invite him to lead everyone off the field. Nice touch.

  16. LANCASHIRE DRAW WITH WORCESTERSHIREpublished at 16:52 BST
    Breaking

    Lancs 281-8 dec v Worcs 270 & 211-5

Brett D'Oliveira and Matthew Waite go to shake hands with the Lancashire fielders and the match ends in a draw at 16:50.

It has been an excellent stand worth 97 between the Pears pair, putting any hopes of an unlikely win on the final day for Lancashire to an end.

Lancashire's declaration helped to try and push the needle towards one side or the other and James Anderson's excellent spell today saw him pick up the wickets of Jake Libby and Gareth Roderick in quick succession.

But after Tom Hartley claimed two wickets in three balls, D'Oliveira (46*) and Waite (47*) helped steer Worcestershire safely to a draw. The damage was done on day two after rain completely wiped out a full day's play.

Lancashire take 12 points from the match, Worcestershire 11.

  17. KENT DRAW WITH DURHAMpublished at 16:51 BST
    Breaking

    Kent 523 & 1-1 v Durham 446

Sam Northeast walks to the middle and appears to ask the umpire what the point is in continuing the game - moments later hands are shaken and that is that at Beckenham.

A rather undignified ending to a match spoiled by the loss of the third day's play after rain got under the covers.

First-innings centuries by Ben Dawkins and Sam Northeast were high-class, but the final day will be remembered for the 158-run 10th-wicket stand between Ben Raine and Callum Parkinson.

Ben Stokes was earlier out for 45, bowled off the inside edge by James Taylor, and the England captain was not happy with himself.

  18. Latest at a gloomy Tauntonpublished at 16:49 BST

We went off for rain 10 balls into the final session of play about 40 minutes ago.

The rain has since stopped but the covers remain on.

Don't give up on this one yet.

Durham are all smiles - bet Dawkins doesn't find it funny in the slightest.
