I expect tomorrow to be the best day for batting here.

We just don't know what's going to happen with the surface because of the extreme weather.

Sophie Ecclestone on becoming England's all-time leading wicket taker: "It's pretty mint, its pretty special. It's been a big ten years, I would've never dreamt of anything like this. I've got no words, just buzzing it happened."

"Mady bowled brilliantly, there was a lot of spin on that end but not on pavilion end. The seamers were making it move off the seam, that was good to see. Hopefully it settles down tomorrow. It's pretty cool to watch her, we played together since we were young. To see her make her test debut, it's been good to watch from the other end."

On the T20 World Cup final defeat by Australia: "It was a pretty rough Monday, I was pretty upset. I have a 24 hour rule. After that, we trained, it's been good to get back out there."

"The shoulder is fine to be fair, it's more mentally. I love Test cricket it's my favourite. I love being out there bowling."

"It was a pretty special occasion, walking out of the longroom with the ex-players there. Pretty special, once in a lifetime."

India need to take a leaf out of England book tomorrow. It was the spinners who were the most effective. The majority of the overs have been bowled by spinners.

This morning was really wholesome. It was so lovely to see all the past players. It was a beautiful day and it's great for the ECB to recognise those players who paved the way.

You're always under a bit more pressure when you opt to bowl first. Sometimes you snatch the opportunity. England missed their mark in the firs hour or so and India capitalised.

England kept them close so when the breakthrough did come, everyone else can just follow suit.

These guys played in a T20 World Cup final five days ago. For England to be able to maintain their discipline throughout the day deserves credit.

Sophie Ecclestone deserves it. To be able to switch between formats like she doe and to be able to be one of the best for as long as she has. She wasn't threatened by Mady Villiers at the other end, she just endorsed it. She's not in it for records, she's that good she just ticks them off along the way.

India were 190-3 at one stage, and were ultimately bowled out for 285.

Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur put on 89 for the fourth wicket, but were dismissed in quick succession.

The tourists lost their last four wickets for 13 runs, with Sophie Ecclestone grabbing the final three in the space of six balls.

India player Smriti Mandhana speaking to Test Match Special: "Disappointed to not get over the line. We're going very well. If my wicket hadn't fallen, we would've gone past 400. Nevertheless, we got some runs on the board."

"I was happy to get going. In Test matches, sometimes if you don't bat for a very long time, you think about it a lot. They got two early breakthroughs, they thought something was in the wicket, I thought we batted well."

"I think it's good conditions to bat in, it's important to play late, that's one thing that worked for us. It's Test match cricket, it's going to turn and swing because it's a red ball. We're so used to white ball but you just have too keep going."

"We didn't qualify for the [T20 World Cup] semis so we got extra days rest. Had some sessions with the red ball, that's how women's cricket is. I'm really happy the way everyone has applied themselves."

I think it's pretty even. India should have reviewed the Heather Knight lbw. England would've sent out a night watcher.

    I think it's even Stevens.

Here's the lbw chance that Heather Knight survived just before the close.

She'll resume tomorrow with one from 20 balls.

England seamer Issy Wong speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we've had a brilliant day. To be in a position where you've bowled out the opposition, all our bowlers chipped in.

"I bowled Jemi [Rodrigues] a few wobbles and got bored with that. Thankfully she chased one, so thanks for the assist.

"I didn't get loads of the bounce, but I'm also 5ft 6 1/2in, I know that the Laurens got a bit more. There's a bit to work with as a bowler, which is nice.

"I try and always have a smile on my face, because it is good fun, isn't it? Sometimes if your body is struggling, your mind can tell you can have another go."

An absorbing days cricket, England opting to bowl first. After the first hour, they settled into it really well and got their rewards in the afternoon. Kept it tight, didn't let it get away from them and caused somewhat of a collapse.

If India opted to review before, we would be questioning if England are in trouble.

One more four before the finish for Maia Bouchier, turning Kranti Gaud fine.

England finish having only scored off two of their last 37 balls, with the exceptions both being boundaries for Bouchier.

An even first day, after England won the toss and chose to bowl.

I feel like England have allowed themselves to be bunkered down at one end, there's no attempts at running.

As a bowler, you want to be bowling at the same person.

India have bowled really, really well here.

Gaud is using the slopes and her skills, she should have two-fer. England should be on the ropes but they are only just surviving.
