      Swedish pair Jonatan Hellvig and David Ahman won men's beach volleyball gold with a convincing 21-10 21-13 victory over German duo Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler on Saturday.

      Hellvig and Ahman are the first Swedish team to ever medal in beach volleyball. Sweden had not been represented in the sport at the Olympics for 20 years until Paris.

      In the bronze-medal match Norway's Anders Mol and Christian Sorum beat Qatar's Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan 21-13 21-16.

      Brazilian pair Ana Patricia and Duda are the women’s Olympic champions after seeing off Canadian duo Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson in a gripping final.

      Despite topping the world rankings, the Brazil team had won only one event in 2024 before the Olympics but dropped just one set on their way to the final.

      They won a tight first set 26-24 against their Canadian opponents but were pegged back 12-21 in the second.

      They jumped into an early lead in the decider, bringing up five match points and needing only two to clinch the gold medal 15-10.

      Earlier on Friday, Switzerland’s Tanja Huberli and Nina Brunner won bronze in straight sets (21-17, 21-15) against Maraife del Solar and Taliqua Clancy of Australia.
