    A former first round pick, relegated to a career back-up and now on his fifth team, Sam Darnold has had plenty of doubters even when leading two teams to 14-win seasons in consecutive years.

    But he's answered most of those tonight with a three-touchdown game filled with good decisions and even better throws to win a shootout with Matthew Stafford.

    Now he'll return to San Francisco, where he spent a year as a back-up, just one game away from etching his name in NFL as a Super Bowl champion.

    That'd be some comeback story!
