A former first round pick, relegated to a career back-up and now on his fifth team, Sam Darnold has had plenty of doubters even when leading two teams to 14-win seasons in consecutive years.

But he's answered most of those tonight with a three-touchdown game filled with good decisions and even better throws to win a shootout with Matthew Stafford.

Now he'll return to San Francisco, where he spent a year as a back-up, just one game away from etching his name in NFL as a Super Bowl champion.

That'd be some comeback story!

Seattle Seahawks' British defensive coordinator Aden Durde speaking to Fox: "It is crazy. Throughout the game things were going right, things were going wrong. We just had to keep going. It was a crazy game."

On what emotions he is feeling right now: "It is hard. Seeing what these guys put in and what they get out of it. You set a goal and you achieve it.

"We just live for tonight. Shut it down and get up tomorrow and get to work on that."

On Sam Darnold: "Sam is a dog. He is our quarterback and he leads us."

On what it means after his individual journey: "I haven't really thought about it much. I take it one day at a time. One day at a time every single day and to be able to do it with these guys - it's a special group and I wouldn't want to do it with anyone else."

The Seahawks will appear in their fourth Super Bowl in a couple of weeks and their first in 11 years - and they'll face the same opponents as they did in their last appearance in 2015.

Back then, the New England Patriots won a thriller thanks to the famous Malcolm Butler interception on the goal line, so Seattle have a score to settle.

The Seahawks win and they'll head to San Francisco to face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60!

Seattle call their final timeout after getting a look at what the Rams had planned. With 10 seconds left there's just enough time to run one more play before trying for the end zone. But it has to be right.

Matthew Stafford gets the Rams to the 30 with a pass to Puka Nacua - but just 10 seconds left.
