Fuse ODG is one of the pioneers in the Afrobeats movement. Songs like Azonto and Antenna made him a household name. In 2018 he was the first Ghanaian to win a Grammy for his collaboration with UK superstar Ed Sheeran. Born in South London to Ghanaian parents, he was raised in Ghana before returning to the UK for his secondary education. That experience shaped his musical journey, and his determination to challenge negative narratives about Africa. He refused to be a part of the re-release of the Band Aid song Do They Know It’s Christmas. And he’s launched an app to teach kids about African history and a range of Nana Dolls, toys with different African hairstyles and wearing African fashions. In this episode he tells DJ Edu about his latest album SONA - Spirit of New Africa - and songs within it including 54 Countries and Sundiata, both of which continue his crusade to turn the story of Africa around.
