As a teenager musician Peter Cole’s life was thrown into turmoil by the Liberian civil war. He fled his home town for the protection of international peacekeepers in the capital Monrovia. And when the war came to the capital he left the country, becoming a refugee in Ivory Coast, before finally settling in Senegal. The war and the horrific events it brought to Liberia had a huge impact on Peter’s music, he doesn’t shy away from challenging subjects – from the plight of child soldiers to sexual abuse. Now based in Dakar performing, producing, and appearing on TV as a talent show judge, his music with its social messages has gained popularity across the region.
