Alexandra Wilson is a young black British barrister - and as a result she sometimes gets mistaken for the defendant in court. Growing up in Essex she never imagined herself becoming a lawyer, but the murder of a close family friend inspired her career. She studied at Oxford University and was eventually awarded a Queen’s Scholarship, given to students who show exceptional promise at the Bar. She tells Emily Webb why she's fighting to create a more diverse legal profession. Her book is called In Black And White: A Young Barrister's Story of Race and Class in a Broken Justice System. A longer version of this interview was first broadcast on 1st October 2020. Presenter: Emily Webb Producer: June Christie Get in touch: [email protected] (Photo: Alexandra Wilson.
