Coping with grief

The Documentary

Available for over a year

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, and the UK’s Chief Rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis, both experienced the loss of a child. They talk together about this experience and how to cope with grief. Justin Welby and Ephraim Mirvis have become close friends. As well as being senior religious leaders in the UK, they have both experienced the death of a child. Johanna Welby was seven months old when she died in a car crash. Ephraim Mirvis’ daughter, Liora, was 30 when she died of cancer, leaving behind a husband and two children. They agreed to talk about their experiences at the end of a year when more than a million people have died around the world because of Covid-19. How should we respond to the loss of a loved one? And what can we do to support friends and family members who have experienced loss this year? In this extended interview Justin Welby and Ephraim Mirvis discuss death, grief and recovery, and what we can learn from the coronavirus pandemic. (Photo: The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
