Claudia Hammond and a panel of international experts look at the latest research into Covid-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus which is sweeping the world. The virus is causing a great deal of uncertainty and anxiety globally and at the same time a huge amount of scientific work has been done since the emergence of the virus at the end of last year. The Evidence examines what we do know about the virus and Covid-19, which strategies have been successful internationally, the use of big data and looks to the future with new treatments and vaccines. On the panel are Professor David Heymann, an infectious disease epidemiologist who headed the WHO’s global response to SARS, Sarah Gilbert, Professor of Vaccinology at Oxford University who is about to start testing a new vaccine against the coronavirus, Josie Golding who is epidemics lead at Wellcome Trust, Jason Wang, Director of the Center for Policy, Outcomes and Prevention at Stanford University and Susan Michie, Professor of Health Psychology at University College London.
