In praise of eggs

The Fifth Floor

Available for over a year

In many countries celebrating Easter this weekend, huge quantities of chocolate eggs will be consumed. It seems a good moment to look more closely at eggs, a symbol of new life and rebirth in cultures all around the world. Joining the Fifth Floor egg hunt for sayings, traditions and recipes are Ali Hamedani of BBC Persian, Sabir Mustafa of BBC Bengali and Sergei Goryashko of BBC Russian. They also share the latest news of the Covid-19 pandemic from their regions, including balcony parties being held in lockdown Iran, and fears in Moscow of a new level of restriction requiring a special pass to leave your home. Songs in the key of coronavirus Congolese singer Koffi Olomidé has become the latest musician to release a song about the coronavirus pandemic. Robert Misigaro of BBC Great Lakes tells us more about the singer, and the message of his new hit Assassin. Will make-up for men catch on? Pre-lockdown, BBC Arabic journalist Mohamed Matar took a make-up lesson at a department store. Make-up for men is very unusual in the Arab world, which Mohamed covers, but has a high level of acceptance in South Korea. We brought Mohamed together with BBC Korean's David Cann to discuss the pros and cons. My home town: Arba Minch, Ethiopia Kaleb Moges of BBC Amharic takes us to the lakeside city of Arba Minch in Ethiopia, famous for its 'crocodile market'.
