Head of US central bank tells Trump to 'spend more' amid pandemic

World Business Report

Available for over a year

Jerome Powell, head of the Federal Reserve, says Covid 19 could cause long-term economic damage and that the much hoped for recovery could take longer than expected. We speak to Sarah Bloom-Raskin, former deputy secretary of the US treasury and board member of the Fed, about Powell's comments. The UK's economy shrank at its fastest pace since 2008 in the first three months of 2020. We look at the health of the UK's property sector with Tim Hyatt, head of UK Residential at the estate agents Knight Frank. And Pat McDonagh, chief executive of Clarity Business Travel discusses how his sector has been hit by the coronavirus crisis. Also in the programme, with farming, trucking, aviation and shipping all dramatically affected by the pandemic, global food supply chains have been severely disrupted. The BBC's Manuela Saragosa has been investigating how that could impact our habits once the crisis subsides. Plus, Bjorn Ulvaeus of the iconic Swedish band Abba tells us what isolation and lockdown have been like for him. (Picture: A lone cyclist in Coney Island. Picture credit: Getty Images.)
