Companies respond to Black Lives Matter on Juneteenth

World Business Report

Available for over a year

We hear how firms are marking Juneteenth, the anniversary of the end of slavery in the US. Author A. Kirsten Mullen grew up in Texas, the last state where slavery was abolished, and tells us whether she thinks the additional focus this year as a result of recent Black Lives Matter protests will signal any lasting change. And we hear from Pepper Miller, who is an African-American marketing expert, and helps companies appreciate the power and value of black people as a segment of the market. Also in the programme, with a significantly reduced oil price, oil companies are having a tough time at the moment. Maarten Wetselaar is director of gas and new energies at Shell, and tells us how the business is responding the the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Plus Plus, we hear from the owner of the Lindores Abbey Distillery in Fife, Scotland, about their plans for this very difficult year for their industry.
