Violence erupts in US on sixth day of protests

Newsday

Available for over a year

Police in the United States have clashed with demonstrators across the country, as anger over the killing of an African-American man, George Floyd, intensifies. There have been violent confrontations in dozens of cities including New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. The US will designate the anti-fascist group Antifa a terrorist organisation, President Donald Trump says. The president accused Antifa of starting riots at street protests over George Floyd's death. Primary schools in England are beginning to bring back more pupils but half of parents might not send in their children, surveys suggest. There is a very mixed local picture in how schools are reopening, and in some areas schools will remain shut.
