Coronavirus: Tensions escalate between China and Australia

Newsday

Available for over a year

The coronavirus outbreak has sparked increasing tensions between Australia and China. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has indicated he would support an independent inquiry into how the outbreak began, to which Beijing has responded angrily. President Trump says he won't extend his government's social distancing guidelines even though the number of coronavirus deaths in the US has passed 60,000. In Mexico, there's been a disturbing rise in attacks on health workers. Medical staff have been assaulted in the streets, banned from public transportation and in a few cases, even doused in bleach by people who have accused them of spreading the virus.
