Coronavirus declared global health emergency by WHO

World Business Report

Available for over a year

The new coronavirus has been declared a global emergency by the World Health Organization, as the outbreak continues to spread outside China. Laurie Garrett, author of The Coming Plague, explains the implications. We take a look at what's in store for Britain's financial services sector after Brexit. Niamh Moloney is a professor of financial markets law at the London School of Economics, and tells us about the trade-offs involved as the UK and European Union begin to negotiate how this crucial sector will operate at the end of Britain's transition out of the EU. Saker Nusseibeh is chief executive of Hermes Investment Management, and explains how the firm has set up an office in Ireland in preparation for Brexit. Rami Cassis of Parebellum Investments discusses EU rules he'd like to see the UK diverge from at the end of the process. And we hear from Barbara Casu, professor of banking at Cass Business School, whether there is another city that could supplant London as a global financial centre. Also in the programme, the BBC's Adrienne Murray reports from southern Denmark on the prospects for a new electric ferry.
