The potential of wind power

World Business Report

Available for over a year

Offshore wind energy could be a trillion dollar industry in 20 years, so will it happen? Rachel Ruffle is the chief executive for northern Europe of Renewable Energy Systems, and tells us energy generated by renewables is now competitive with all other forms of conventional generation. The International Energy Agency made the trillion dollar prediction for offshore generation, and Laura Cozzi, its chief energy modeller explains how it might come about. Giles Dickson is chief executive of Wind Europe, the Brussels-based trade association for the wind industry, and discusses how the European industry is developing. And we hear about developments in the United States from Tom Kiernan, chief executive of the American Wind Energy Association. Also in the programme, following the killing by the United States of Iranian military leader Qasem Soleimani, BBC Middle East Business Correspondent Sameer Hashmi considers the likely impact on oil prices and for businesses in the region. Plus we meet a lifelong vegan who is encouraging members of the public to sponsor animals, rather than eat them. (Picture: Wind turbines. Picture credit: Getty Images.)
