Boeing chief fired but 737 concerns persist

World Business Report

Available for over a year

US plane maker Boeing has replaced its chief executive Dennis Muilenburg in the wake of two deadly 737 Max crashes and the plane's subsequent grounding. We speak to Scott Hamilton, an aviation industry consultant with Leeham news and analysis in Seattle. Plus, UK defence and aerospace company Cobham has been bought by a US private equity firm in a $5bn deal that could test the new government's tolerance of foreign takeovers. Francis Tusa is editor of newsletter Defence Analysis, and explains the implications. Also in the programme, amid concern about energy consumed to power the internet, we consider the growing impact. Mike Berners Lee is author of 'How Bad are Bananas? The Carbon Footprint of Everything', and tells us how the internet consumes as much energy as all the flights taken in the world. We hear how bitcoin mining is the biggest energy consumer in Georgia. And Mike Hocking discusses his decision, taken 15 years ago, to set up a carbon neutral internet hosting site in the southwest of England.
