Forced sterilisation of women in South Africa exposed

Newsday

Available for over a year

Dozens of HIV-positive women in South Africa have been sterilised without their consent or were pressured to agree just before giving birth, an official inquiry has found. One of the women affected tells her story. A senior security official in Australia has warned of the growing threat from far-right extremists. And the NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson has passed away at the age of 101. She was portrayed in the film Hidden Figures, about the African American women who helped the US space programme in the 1950s and 1960s. We speak to the author of the book behind the film.
