Sudan: Clashes in Khartoum

Newsday

Available for over a year

Reports from the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, say that government forces have taken control of the intelligence headquarters where security personnel loyal to former president Omar al Bashir were staging a revolt. Taiwan's newly re-elected leader has said the island is already independent and there's no need to declare it formally, in comments likely to anger Beijing. A leading rights group says the Chinese government is overseeing the country's most brutal and wide-spread oppression for decades.
