South African Airways staff go on strike

Employees of South African Airways are due to start a two-day strike over pay. The staff are also unhappy with plans to cut a fifth of the workforce. The state-owned airline has cancelled nearly all of its flights today and Saturday. In Tanzania, six farmers were killed when unidentified gunmen raided a village near the border with Mozambique, on Tuesday. This is the second attack in the same border area, over the last five months. Sri Lanka’s outgoing president has caused outrage after pardoning a death row prisoner who murdered a Swedish teenager in 2005.
