As world leaders gather in New York for a UN climate summit, leading scientists have warned that the causes and impacts of global warming are accelerating. A World Meteorological Organisation report says the last five years are set to be the hottest on record. Thomas Cook has collapsed after last-minute negotiations aimed at saving the 178-year-old holiday firm failed. It has also triggered the biggest ever peacetime repatriation, aimed at bringing more than 150,000 British holidaymakers home. The dark comedy Fleabag was the big winner at the Emmy awards, with the show’s creator and lead actress, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, taking home prizes for the prize for best leading comedy actress, best comedy series and best comedy writing.
