BRICS countries hold annual summit in Brazil

Big Boss Interview

Available for over a year

The countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - represent 40% of the world's population and a third of global output. Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro praised the 'memorandum of understanding' between the nations, but what else was on the conference agenda? We speak to Oliver Stuekel, assistant professor of international relations at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation in São Paulo. Venice, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been hit by serious flooding. The Italian prime minister has described the floods as 'a blow to the heart of the country'. Local journalist Vera Mantengoli writes for the daily newspaper Nuova Venezia and describes what life is like in the city right now. And it's 25 years since the Eurostar carried its first passengers through the Channel Tunnel, linking the UK to mainland Europe. We hear how the company has been celebrating this milestone. Sasha Twining is joined throughout the programme by Stefanie Yuen Thio, joint managing partner at TSMP Law, from Singapore and author and journalist Paddy Hirsch, who's in Los Angeles.
