The lost graves mystery of Chelmsford
Available for over a year
Lost and forgotten graves at a cemetery in Chelmsford are being rediscovered in an effort to help tell their story. It's believed there are as many as 2,000 numbered metal tags, which should correspond with burials at the two-acre site on New London Road. The cemetery opened in 1846 and the Essex Gardens Trust said it was taken over by Chelmsford council in 1950, but a map of the grounds no longer exists. Mark Rogers discovered the mystery upon learning that his wife's great great grandfather was buried there, although the location of his plot was unknown.... Picture credit: Henry Godfrey-Evans/BBC.
