Medieval manuscript identified as original work by Richard Rolle
Available for over a year
A manuscript kept for centuries in a Shropshire school has been identified as the original version of one of medieval England’s most widely read books. The 14th‑century text at Shrewsbury School contains the only complete copy of The Emending of Life by hermit‑writer Richard Rolle. In his day his work is said to have outsold Geoffrey Chaucer. BBC Radio Shropshire's Richard Tisdale has been finding out more from the schools archivist, Naomi Nicholas. Photo credit: Shrewsbury School
