Who were the Illyrians, the ancient people who once dominated the Western Balkans? In this episode, we explore their tribal society, warrior culture and complex relationships with their Greek and Roman neighbours - from trade and influence to conflict and piracy. For this, we're joined by Danijel Dzino, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History and Archaeology at Macquarie University, Sydney. He tells us what became of the Illyrians and explains how their identity and legacy echo in the region today. Produced by James Hickmann and edited by Dougal Patmore. All music from Epidemic Sounds/All3Media. Dan Snow's History Hit is a History Hit podcast.
