Crying Christmas: Lincoln's lost festive tradition

Secret Lincolnshire

Available for over a year

Crying Christmas was a tradition from the middle ages when the Lincoln Waites, the city’s official mayoral band read, or 'cried', a proclamation to announce the start of festivities. It gradually fell out of use around the late 16th century but the modern-day City of Lincoln Waites have revived the tradition and believe it to be an important part of the city's heritage. Produced and presented by Patrycja Boryka. Image courtesy of the City of Lincoln Waites.
