From banned busker to best busker

BBC Introducing

Available for over a year

Shrewsbury's Jason Allan has spent a lifetime singing to whoever will listen, creating an online following nearly three times the size of the county he calls home. In just twelve months, he's gone from being banned from performing on certain streets to being crowned Best Busker at the Shropshire Music Awards. Jason Allan first joined a choir aged 8, started busking at 11 and has honed his craft ever since, all while making viral videos of grannies dancing and people stealing his cash. You may remember he was in the news last year, having been given an £11,000 fine for "street trading" and handing out flyers, which was partially paid by some of his one-and-half-million fans. Tackling subjects of mental health, social media, division and self-belief, Jason Allan explains how he ended up in Shrewsbury.
