This is episode six in our nine-part series on American history. Katie and Datshiane focuses on the Wall Street Crash of October 1929, when the panic selling of shares on the Wall Street stock market led to a financial crisis. US banks ran out of money and businesses went bankrupt. As a result, millions of American workers lost their jobs. This period became known as the Great Depression. Within a short space of time the American economy turned from prosperity to despair. Throughout the episode, you are encouraged to keep a notebook or laptop nearby so that you can pause and replay sections of the episode as needed.
