BBC Radio WM’s Daz Hale heads to Birmingham’s Alexandra Theatre in search of ghosts and ghouls. First opened in 1901, The Alex – as it’s often referred to – has seen many famous faces tread the boards there. Everyone from Laurence Olivier to Dame Joan Collins and Sir Ian McKellen. As well as being a popular entertainment destination, it’s also thought to be one of the most haunted venues in the West Midlands. Next up is the story of Leon Salberg – known as ‘The Panto King’ – because of his string of popular pantomimes. He was the owner of the Alexandra Theatre from 1910 until his death in 1937 – but he has been spotted there many times since then.
