Hospital security guard gets 'stab threats' at work

Verity Cowley

Available for over a year

Leston Scafe, also known as Sugar, has worked as a security guard at Queen's Medical Centre for almost four years. During that time, he says he's noticed a rise in incidents of aggression, violence and harassment towards staff. In January 2023, Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust introduced a red and yellow card system in an effort to deal with violent and aggressive patients. Red cards have already been issued to six patients, meaning they will only be treated if they need life-saving care. Clinical staff at Nottingham's hospitals have also been given hundreds of body-worn cameras in an effort to protect them from abuse.
